The most important part of treatment is avoidance of etiological factors.'Ayurveda' the science of life emphasizes equally to the medicinal treatment as well as maintenance of health in a healthy individual , that comes only through following proper pathyapathya - i.e. following the instruction mentioned in texts in daily work and food regimens by an individual. Acharya Sushruta says 'Nidana parivarjana ' is the first line of treatment for a disease. 'Gada nigraha" another text of Ayurveda advocates - if one obeys the pathyas no diseas is possible and if one never mind them and continues apathyas no tretment is needed, as it is not going to be cured. It emphasizes the importance of food and life style regimens for a pathological condition. This section will include many disesases mostly related to salyatantra(Ayurvedic surgery and orthopaedics) in the coming bloggs. The basic of Pathya as told by Acharyas is the avoiding the causes of a diseases and they are
1. Ati yoga - excess intake of any food or doing any job
2. Ayoga - absence of intake of a food or work
3. Mithya yoga- wrong intake or doing a job
Hence it lays the basic principle of YOGA - i.e. the state of samavastha / samayoga or a state of balance always need to be maintained in a life.
Haemorrhoids(Arsha)
Pathya - ahara-vihara(Wholesome diets and life style to be adopted )
1. Intake of fibrous diets - Radish, leafy vegetables(moderate amount)etc. Turnip, Bitter Gourd, Onion
2. Sufficient fresh fruits in the diet specially fruits like guava etc.(not more sour fruits)
3. Sufficient intake of Water
4. Care of bowel clearance- Triphala or Isabgol may be better to take in constipative conditions
5. Intake of food in proper time regularly
6. Better to take boiled rice or chapati than white rice
7. Take light, easily digestible foods
8. Habit of taking butter milk added with some rock salt, coriander leaf and dry zinger powder, jeera if constipation is not there
9. Take sufficient night sleep and not day sleep
Apathya ahara- vihara (Un-wholesome diets and life style to be avoided )
1. Intake of more salty, spicy, oily diet.
2. Spicy and heavy diets like Biriani, fried rice must be avoided
3.More intake of non-vegetarian diets
4. More intake of diets forming gas like cabbage, potato etc.
5. Intake of alcohol
6. Late night sleep and food intake
7. Straining during defecation
8. Continuous sitting or standing for hours
9. Sitting in irregular and hard surfaces
10.Excessive sexual habits
Pathya-pathya for Low Back Ache (Kateegraha)
Pathya
1. Intake of fibrous diet, plenty of vegetables and fruits
2. Milk, butter milk , Small fishes
3. Sufficient intake of water
4. Intake of easily digestible food
5. Proper rest as well as night sleep
6. Regular exercise and yogasanas like pavanamuktasana, salabhasana etc
7. Regular oil massage
Apathya
1. More intake of non-vegetarian, spicy and oily diets.
2. More heavy foods like biriyani and fried rice.
3. More intake of tea, coffee.
4. More intake of cold food items cold drinks, ice cream like ice-cream etc
5. Drinking alcohol.
6. More intake of tubers and gas producing vegetables like potato, cabbage etc
7. More intake of pungent, sour foods, curds etc
8. Improper posture while sitting and lying down.
9. Sudden change of posture.
10. Lifting heavy objects.
11. Continuous sitting or standing for hours.
12. Strenuous jobs and heavy exercises.
13. Long journey and driving two or four wheelers for long time.
14. Late night sleep and day sleep.
15. More exposure to cold water, air etc.
16. Using improper shoe like high heels, unfit shoes, etc.
17. More sexual activity.
Pathya-pathya for Varicosity patients
A. Pathya
1. Intake of fibrous foods, plenty of vegetables like radish, carrot, onion, bitter guard ,turnip , etc., leafy vegetables like spinach, (cheera), punarnava(tazhutama) etc. and fruits (guava , gooseberry etc and not sour fruits)
2. Whole grain cereals – wheat , green gram, oat etc
3. Buttermilk
4. Sufficient intake of water
5. Proper night sleep
6. Regular exercises, walking, swimming etc.
7. Maintain a normal weight .
8. Elevate your feet above your heart while sleeping.
9. Yogasana such as pavanamuktasana, Halasana, Sarvangasana, etc.
B. Apathya
1. More intake of fishes, meat and other non- vegetarian diets
2. More spicy and oily diets
3. More heavy foods like biriyani and fried rice etc.
4. More intake of tea , and coffee
5. Drinking Alcohol and smoking
6. More intake of tubers and gas producing vegetables like potato, cabbage etc
7. More intake of sour foods, curd etc
8. Continuous sitting or standing for hours
10. Strenuous jobs and exercise
11. long journey
